FOTA E&L Launches JASS (Junior Award Scheme Scotland)

As a direct result of work with hard to reach learners in secondary school, FOTA E&L have been aware that for many of these young people, their problems started long before secondary school. In partnership with the City of Edinburgh Sport and Outdoor Education Unit, we have developed an accredited learning programme inspired by the DofE and aimed at P6-S2.

JASS has been designed to deliver on key outcomes of A Curriculum for Excellence and the Leaders Handbook makes direct links to these, allowing teachers and other leaders to chart achievements within this framework.

There are 4 sections to gaining a JASS Award at either Bronze, Silver or Gold: My Interests, Get Active Stay Active, Me and My World and Adventure.

Each section can be delivered over one or two terms, depending on the JASS level.

A JASS pack includes an Achievement File, sectional certificates, overall certificate (Bronze, Silver and Gold) and the corresponding badge.

Cost is £5.00 per participant, per level

JASS is currently being piloted in City of Edinburgh schools and youth club settings, with the JASS Evaluation Report being due by end January 2011.

JASS will then be widely available.
