FOTA E&L AGM 2010

On 26th October 2010 the FOTA E&L AGM took place at New Parliament House, Edinburgh.

22 people supported us on the night. Thank you!

Our theme this year was IMPACT of Our Work and all staff had created story boards to inform visitors with a visual snap-shot of what impact their particular project has on our clients.

The message was illustrated beautifully by two presentations from Transitions delivery partners: the CAMHS Unit at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and Pilrig Park Special School Silver DofE participants. The Occupational Therapists from CAMHS work in partnership with our CAMHS Development Officer, Lizzy Treacy. They talked about the many small steps that one of their young clients has had to take to over come her fear of the new to be able to complete the first ever DofE Expedition from CAMHS. 'Mary' is featured in our Annual Report. The impact of this experience on her self-confidence has been tremendous and served to reassure her that she can take control of her life.

The 3 lads from Pilrig Park were truly inspiring. As their support worker Brian pointed out, having a learning difficulty makes you 'other' and used to struggling for what you want to achieve. Against this background, a group from Pilrig Park undertook their Expeditions this summer, for many the first ever experience of hiking and camping overnight. Their slide show said it all! The whole group helped each other to complete. The 3 lads are now going on to their Gold DofE and are mentoring in another special school, coaching younger people in football skills. We wish them well for that and look forward very much to featuring their Gold Presentations!
