22 people supported us on the night. Thank you!

Our theme this year was IMPACT of Our Work and all staff had created story boards to inform visitors with a visual snap-shot of what impact their particular project has on our clients.

We will be holding our next BELA (Basic Expedition Leader Award) training course at Trinity Academy in Edinburgh.

Friends of the Award are pleased to offer you a selection of new section opportunities, available to any young people undertaking their DofE in the Edinburgh area. If you are interested in any of the opportunities below, please read the bottom of each opportunity to see how to register.

The Measuring Our Impact Event was held in February 2010 at New Parliament House, Edinburgh to bring together DofE managers from Edinburgh, West and East Lothian and Ayrshire to discuss the issue of 'How can we best measure the impact of the DofE?

On a weekend in May, 67 young people from Edinburgh took to the hills on a camping and walking expedition as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award. The group was made up of several of the city's DofE Award groups including, North Edinburgh Open Award group, South Edinburgh Open Award group and St Thomas of Aquins HS. The groups were led by 8 volunteers and the DofE Award Expedition co-ordinator, Fraser Robertson.

This is a first for us at FOTA E&L. This group is running supported by our Transitions Development Officer, Peter Wright and is a mixed ability group; able-bodied, disabled and learning difficulties.

Rather than a focus soley on walking, as with the more tradition DofE Gold Expedition, this is a Gold Group focussing on Exploration around the theme of 'The Living Forest'.

Every Duke of Edinburgh Award is a story of achievement for every young person who does it. For some young people, their DofE is even more of an achievement taking their background in to account. We have had some wonderful presentations of DofE Awards all over Edinburgh City this year, but I want to single out Pilrig Park School for a special mention.

We have been advised by Edinburgh Council CTU that Enterprise will no longer be hiring Minibuses.  This leaves us with Turners - they have increased their charges to £41.20 per day + fuel. Delivery Charge £30, Collection Charge £30. Also Turners have a limited stock of minibuses so anyone wishing hires in the future should do so well in advance.

Please remember we can also hire 9 seater people carriers - these can be driven with a small vehicles permit issued through Edinburgh Council.
